I recall very well when daddy built our house.
I was an awful pest much worse than a mouse!
I was either beside Daddy or just a step behind.
I talked so much he had no peace of mind.
Yes, I was a chatter box with questions galore.
Being patient with me was surely a tough chore!
From the first floor joist to the roof above
Daddy was cool and calm he possessed patience and love.
He was constantly careful so I wouldn't get hurt.
But I'm sure he was thinking I was a busy little squirt.
Oh, I wanted to help him as I watched every move.
I felt I could do it and I attempted to prove.
No matter how I tried there wasn't much I could do,
For I was far too young at the ripe old age of two.
He'd need to cut a board and lay the hammer down.
But then when he needed it was no where around.
For I had picked it up and was working like mad.
I bent all the nails that my daddy had.
As he straightened the nails after pulling them out,
He taught me a lesson without a single doubt.
He patiently told me I shouldn't be doing this
Because I'd mash my finger if ever I'd miss.
Now I must admit that I didn't obey.
And guess what happened the very next day.
Yes, I mashed my finger my daddy wasn't surprised.
He picked me up with a hug and then dried my eyes.
He began to tell me when a child doesn't obey
God generally punishes them without much delay.
Although I couldn't see Him I knew God was near,
So the thought of disobeying filled me with fear.
For I had felt this spanking God gave to me.
My daddy was right it was plain to see.
I learned about building a house and other lessons along the way
And they were firmly planted in my mind to stay!
